We welcomed "Marigold" to our herd May of 2019. Marigold has matured nicely after being dry for 2019 and is now wider and just generally more mature looking. You probably wouldn't recognize her if you compared her now to her yearling pictures! After a rough kidding in the spring of 2020 I thought surely she would never produce more than 1/2 gallon of milk per day and she ended up easily surpassing that! It just goes to show the will to milk these genetics have! Her 2021 freshening also has us in amazement as she has peaked around 2 gallons per day! Notes regarding DHIR numbers: Marigold was reduced to 1X a day milking on 9/15/20 but has stayed 2X a day milking in 2021 thus far.

**FULL DISCLOSURE**

Marigold was born with a slight parrot mouth (the only time it ever happened out of the cross she is out of) and it does NOT appear to affect her health in any way. Of her offspring (immediate and extended) there has only been ONE other parrot mouth pop up out of 30 and that is our very own Coyote Track CSB Masher. Because we are waiting to hear back on the results from the research being done through the National Sheep & Goat Registry we are not yet certain of the cause of parrot mouths and have made the decision to offer bucklings out of any doe with a parrot mouth as wethers only. Some may wonder "why do you keep an animal with a mouth defect around?" Well here's why: Simply put the #1 purpose of my dairy goats is for their milk. If she can still produce and maintain condition as well then she stays. My two does with parrot mouths produce and keep condition so they stay.
